10 Best Anime TV Series Of 2016 (So Far)

9. Berserk

My Hero Academia 2
GEMBA

Berserk takes a classic anime franchise, adds cutting-edge graphics and animation, and turns this sequel into an exciting, explosive show. The soundtrack ties in perfectly with the story and characters, making every episode unique and familiar.

Berserk is best defined as raw. The series follows the Black Swordsman, Guts, as he traverses a path of death and destruction, in a never-ending search for revenge on the man he once considered a friend. The whole series is epic, with an overwhelming display of blood, pain, and suffering. The darkest, cruelest side of man is masterfully presented, and punishment for these crimes is swiftly dealt, by the Black Swordsman’s huge blade.

Throughout his journey, Guts encounters unlikely allies and old friends, and moves closer and closer to revenge and redemption. The series masterfully plays on the line between good and evil, with Guts killing endlessly in order to stop the one who would destroy the world. The series is satisfying and captivating, and perfect for fans who like things a little gory and graphic.

(Watch or read up on The Golden Age Arc movie trilogy, in order to fully understand and enjoy Berserk.)

I like to think of myself as a world traveler and social butterfly, although I do spend a lot of my time watching the latest Japanese anime series, sitcoms, movies, and drama series. I live on the island of Crete, where I was born, and enjoy walking on the beach with my little cocker spaniel, Molly, when I'm not writing for WhatCulture.com and UNILAD.co.uk.
