Midway through Season 4, Willow joins the campus Wicca group where she meets Tara. Though Willow is the more gifted witch, Tara’s knowledge of the craft is far superior. Together, the pair of them practice magic and develop a close bond which extends far beyond their time at college.

No other character matches Tara when it comes to pure kindness. She’s the only major character who is never tempted by evil at some point during the show. Despite her timid persona, she has a firm moral compass.

And though she starts off as a shy, withdrawn character, Tara becomes steadily more confident as her story continues. Indeed, she grows considerably in the sixth episode of Season 5 when she rejects her magic-hating family and is embraced by the Scooby Gang.

Her death – which occurs in the controversial episode ‘Seeing Red’ – still divides fans to this day. Though it serves as the trigger for Willow’s descent into evil, it’s tragic to see such a kind soul die so young.
