10 Best Buffy The Vampire Slayer Characters
5. Xander
Xander might be the most underrated character in the show. Whilst he is part of the main trio, he isn’t as remarkable as Buffy and Willow due to his lack of powers. What makes him such a good character, however, is his bravery and his humanity.
Whatever situation the Scoobies are faced with, he’s willing to put his body on the line. He never shies away from engaging with vampires, demons, robots, and all manner of wicked foes. His sense of humour is always a welcome addition to the gang as well. Without it, the tone of the show would be much bleaker.
What’s more, Nicholas Brendon also excels when performing some of the more emotive scenes. His dialogue with Alyson Hannigan’s Willow is particularly good, especially their emotional exchange during the Season 6 finale.
There are also several fantastic Xander-focused stories. ‘Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered’, ‘The Zeppo’, and ‘The Replacement’ are all in the top tier of Buffy episodes. As well as the humour that ripples through these stories, they each provide a deep exploration of Xander’s character.
Xander doesn’t always make the wisest decisions, and he’s not the best fighter, but he does have a heart of gold, and this is what makes him so likeable.
