6. Arrested Development - "Afternoon Delight"

Arrested Development enjoyed a cult classic status until the more recent Netflix instalments which failed to capture the magic of the original seasons despite bringing back the same team. Luckily, the classic Christmas episode comes from these early glory days and features equal part cringe comedy with equal part ingenious story.

The episode starts with Gob, the new CEO of Bluth Company, failing to rally the company behind him thanks to constantly bragging about his $3,000 suits and threatening to fire his employees if they go near his sister at the Christmas party. As expected this makes for a tense office Christmas party where Gob fails to take a light-hearted roast from one of his employees and in his petulant anger fires the whole workforce.

While not for everyone, the series offers a solid Christmas episode that rewards loyal fans with just a smidge of festive spirit thrown in for good measure. The very non-Christmassy title of the episode comes from the epiphany Michael and Maeby have when singing a duet of Afternoon Delight and realising how inappropriate and suggestive the lyrics are for an uncle and niece to be singing together. "My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right', why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?..."
