3. Dye! Dye! My Darling
One of the most controversial episodes of the entire series, Dye! Dye! My Darling concluded Daria's fourth and penultimate season by leaving the status quo in shambles.
The culmination of long-brewing tension between Daria and her best friend Jane, the Season 4 finale committed to the idea of pushing Daria out of her comfort zone, shocking audiences with the infamous scene of her kissing Jane's then-boyfriend Tom and casting doubt on the the future of their friendship.
While some fans felt betrayed by this ending and were critical of the Tom arc in general, Dye! Dye! My Darling was a necessary moment for Daria's long-term character development. It made her come face-to-face with the feelings she was all too eager to repress by not only setting her first romance into motion, but making her re-evaluate what kind of friend she'd been and what kind of friend she wanted to be moving forward.
Daria and Jane managed to clear the air in Is It Fall Yet?, and the world is better off for it. But that feeling of dreadful uncertainty Dye! Dye! My Darling leaves the viewer on is one you've no doubt experienced if you've ever been at any kind of crossroads in life.
