10 Best Doctor Who Moments Of 2024

6. Dot And Bubble’s Devastating Ending

Dot and Bubble was a revelation, starting off all light and frothy but evolving into something much darker by the end.

No moment sums this up better than the final scene, when the Doctor, having spent the past 40 minutes trying to help the citizens of Finetime, is callously rejected by them, all because of the colour of his skin.

With Ncuti Gatwa being the first full-time Doctor of colour, there was a sense that racism might rear its ugly head at some point. The decision to bring it up here, in a trip to the future rather than the past, was a masterstroke, and sadly demonstrated that problems of the past might find ways to persist.

In true Doctor style, he is not angry at Lindy and her friends, but angry for them. He still wants to help them, even in the face of their abhorrent behaviour, and the fact that he can’t is what causes him the most pain.

It’s a truly phenomenal performance from Gatwa, and even more impressive when you consider this was his first day filming on Season 1. Dot and Bubble might not have been the most Doctor-heavy story of 2024, but it absolutely delivered the year’s standout Doctor moment.
