9. Gray – Torchwood
Gray is Captain Jack’s younger brother and one of his greatest failures. Being left behind during an invasion of Jack’s home of the Boeshane Peninsula Gray was abducted and tortured mercilessly by the unknown creatures.
Years later Gray was found by Captain John Hart, more on him later, driven insane by his suffering and felt a deep resentment towards his brother. So Gray plotted revenge on Jack by having Weevils murder Cardiff’s senior police officers, sending a Hoix to rampage in a hospital, blowing up half of the city and then forcing Jack to be buried for over a thousand years.
Jack was able to sedate Gray, keeping him in a stasis chamber after he was defeated. But it remains unclear if he survived the destruction of the Torchwood Hub. Viewers would’ve felt pity for Gray for all the trauma he went through, if he didn’t end up shooting Tosh and causing Owen’s death. It was the act that cemented the truth that Gray was almost certainly beyond redemption.
