10 Best Episodes Of The Crown
2. Gelegnite (S1E6)
The first episode to really delve in to just how much impact being part of the monarchy has on the royals lives, this episode concentrates on the beginning of the misery that was the life of Princess Margaret. Vanessa Kirby gives a tour de force of a performance as she brings the vivacious persona of the Princess to life, while immersing herself inside the heartbreak and constant hurt that Margaret felt.
The main focus of the episode is Margaret's request to marry Peter Townsend, a divorcee who was equerry to the Queen. Townsend is clearly the love of Margaret's life, and while Elizabeth originally agrees to the two getting married, the meddling forces in the background soon ensure that the marriage request is sabotaged.
Kirby's reaction to the meddling is incredible as she takes on her sister, challenging the Queen as to where her loyalties truly lie. But as we sadly find out, the loyalty is always to the crown first and her sister second.
