Jaime and Cersei were almost interchangeable at the start of the show, as they both appeared cruel and remorseless. However, what made their relationship so intriguing was the increasing differences between the pair of them as the show continued.

Following his mutilation at the hands of Locke, Jaime returned to his twin sister as a new man. In the fourth season, he sent Brienne and Podrick to find Sansa Stark, an act he most certainly would not have carried out had it not been for his character’s progression.

Cersei, on the other hand, grew more twisted as the show progressed. Throughout all eight seasons she committed a number of sadistic acts, the worst of which was blowing up the Great Sept in the finale of Season 6, resulting in the deaths of several major characters, most notably Margaery Tyrell and the High Sparrow.

Despite their differences, however, their loyalty to the Lannister family kept them united until the end. Though Jaime’s return to Cersei provoked criticism from some fans, it felt right for these two siblings to leave the world as they entered it – together.
