10 Best Game Of Thrones Character Duos

3. Jon And Ghost

Game Of Thrones Hound Arya
HBO

Jon and Ghost were the strongest human-animal relationship in the show. Though Daenerys and Drogon were far more powerful, it took a long time for Drogon to be tamed. Ghost, on the other hand, formed a close bond with his master from the very first season.

Crucially, he was far more than just a pet. After Rast threatened to hurt Sam in training, Jon was able to utilise Ghost as an effective deterrent. The direwolf was of further use in the eighth episode of Season 1 when he detected a wight in Commander Mormont’s quarters.

Yet Ghost was also independent. When north of the Wall, he frequently moved away from his master to explore the wilderness alone. Still, his loyalty never wavered. After Jon was betrayed by his brothers in the Night’s Watch, Ghost’s sadness was evidently apparent.

Given that Ghost’s time on screen was limited, it’s remarkable that he was so loved by viewers. Indeed, his reunion with Jon in the final scene of Season 8 felt like a fitting way to end the show.
