5. Erased

Fullmetal Alchemist
A-1 Pictures

Erased shouldn't work. It is a confusing mixture of genres that, on paper at least, conflict with one another and dilute whatever tone the show originally intended. In execution, however, the various elements blend seamlessly to create an edge of your seat thriller. While the killer's identity maybe evident from the moment they appear on-screen this does little to hamper the overall feeling of uncertainty that pervades each episode.

Satoru Fujinuma possesses the ability to travel back in time moments before a life-threatening incident happens, enabling him to stop it. When someone murders his mother, Satoru activates this power and is thrown back 18 years into the past. Giving him the chance to save not only his mother but three classmates who were victims of a supposedly dead serial killer.

While from a certain point of view, there are somewhat dubious elements to the relationship between Satoru (a man in a child's body) and Kayo (a female student), the show does well to skip over them and instead focus on the mystery and ever-changing timeline his actions create.
