10 Best Hannibal Episodes
8. Antipasto
Whilst season three certainly did have its slow moments, the opening episode to Hannibal's country-hopping escapades as a wanted criminal sure isn't one of those moments.
The episode is cleverly split into the main storyline of Hannibal attempting to set up a new life for himself in beautiful Florence, and black and white flashbacks showcasing whatever became of Abel Gideon. These flashbacks are particularly memorable, with Eddie Izzard's charismatic performance once again great to watch and serving as a nice link back to the two seasons that came before. These flashbacks also give audiences some classic Hannibal 'dinner' scenes, with it turning out that Lecter is forcing Gideon to munch down on his own cooked body.
In real-time, the episode sees Hannibal struggling up to tie up the loose end of one of his friends he had met in Paris following him down to Florence named Anthony Dimmond. There's a tense dinner scene between Dimmond, Hannibal and Du Maurier that eventually results in the Lecter acquaintance being beaten to death.
Dimmond is then shown to have had his remains organised into a makeshift broken heart by Hannibal in a symbol that will end up drawing Will Graham to Italy...
