10 Best Hannibal Episodes
5. Mukozuke
Agent Beverly Katz was one of the best characters on the show during its opening two seasons. Driven, capable and smart, she enters season two as the only person who believes in Will Graham and his innocence and actually goes onto become the first person to work out Hannibal's true identity as the Chesapeake Ripper.
Unfortunately her fate for discovering the truth is revealed in Season 2, Episode 5.
First discovered by the reporter Freddie Lounds in Mukozuke, the audience are finally shown the shocking end of Beverly when Jack enters the same observatory Abel Gideon had held out in the episodes previously. Her body has been extensively operated on, pulled apart like a biology project with each cross section of her corpse pressed between glass panels and lined up like a museum display in what will always go down as one of the most depressing sights in the show's entire run.
It's enough to flatten Jack, who speaks for the entire audience when he doubles over and breaks down.
And that isn't even going into the amazing revenge quest Will goes on with his copy cat killer admirer from within his cell at Doctor Chilton's asylum that ends up with Hannibal being abducted at a swimming pool and being hung from a noose.
