8. Alfred Hitchcock Presents

This highly regarded director is one that even the most unseasoned of cinephiles know. Without even having watched any of his classic films, you likely recognise the infamous director's stature and profile. It is no wonder that the series he invented and ran for ten years makes for a distinctive look into what is capable through episodic storytelling.

Hitchcock presents, later named The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, was a fantastic exploration of the dark and macabre. Very much like his film projects, the episodes are steeped in noir tones and continuously keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Boasting an overwhelming two hundred and sixty-eight episodes - not including its second run and any subsequent reboots - this show certainly had longevity but never grew out of its charm.

The number of episodes directed by Hitchcock was surprisingly limited, but that didn't mean that his signature prestige wasn't found in every outing. Some of the best stories include Revenge, Breakdown, Premonition, Into Thin Air and Whodunit. These are all definitely worth selecting to watch as to take on the entire series would be a daunting challenge.
