10 Best It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Side Characters

2. The McPoyles

Consisting centrally but not limited to Liam, Ryan and Margaret, the McPoyle family have been an element of the show that brings out some fantastic potential for storytelling and comedy. The strange inbred family have quite a few quirks, and this helps them to stand out amongst the densely packed shock value of the show. Each side character has their take on the darker themes of the series and the McPoyles most definitely win the prize for being the most disturbing.

The family act as great antagonists and sometimes associates with The Gang, and have led to some of the best episodes. The concept of the weird family has made appearances in shows before and often acts as a healthy way to play into more outlandish ideas in an otherwise gritty, realistic setting. Notable examples include the Schrutes in The Office and the Boyle family in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. None, however, compare to the McPoyles, who take the concept and lend a tonne of credibility to it.

Their connection to Paddy's leads them to feel often justified in their attacks despite how unrelatable they are, and they are easily one of the shows best elements.
