10 Best Jobs Homer Simpson Has Ever Had
3. Manager
Homer’s most famous time as a manager came early in London in The Simpsons, managing country singer Lurleen Lumpkin. The episode remains one of the best Homer and Marge marriage troubles episodes, even with the show rehashing that plot at least twice a season.
It also gave us some of the best songs in The Simpsons’ history, and had a genuine emotional impact when Homer gave up his career to make Marge happy. Like a lot of the earliest episodes, there’s not too many big incidents in the episode to point to; it’s just laced with funny dialogue and great character moments throughout.
Homer’s taken up music management again since though, managing first Lisa then talent show rival Cameron in A Star Is Torn.
Here, we see Homer go full stage parent, demanding ridiculous backdrops for Lisa’s set, acting obnoxiously towards interns and generally being a diva until Lisa is forced to fire him. Without Homer writing her songs though (a talent he’s had since his B-Sharps days), Lisa begins to flounder. It then becomes clear though that Homer has been sabotaging Cameron (whom he renames Johnny Rainbow), to ensure Lisa wins.
A nice gesture, but an undoubtedly iffy message.
