10 Best League Of Gentlemen Characters

8. Iris & Mrs. Levinson

Like something out of a light sitcom - the tale of two ladies, one rich and the other impoverished, could make for some interesting hijinks. But instead of escapades where Iris and Mrs. Levinson get into all kinds of scrapes, what audiences were treated with instead was a fantastically scripted back and forth between two characters constantly getting one over each other.

The put-upon wealthy Mrs. Levinson would humble-brag her fortunate woes, all the while Iris would divulge TMI related to her sex life. Their conversations often revolved around their unseen husbands, and the passive-aggressive rants each woman spun would escalate to verbal sparring matches that would leave the other stunted.

What's delightful about their dynamic was watching how much the one enjoyed bringing discomfort to the other - with Iris often gaining some upper-hand before being belittled by Mrs. Levinson. The second series finale of their feud might host the best pay-off, as it's revealed that not only was their sniping one elaborate game between the two, but they were actually mother and daughter.

Whatever caused their rift before was never explained, and perhaps it's best it never was. We're better off just sitting back and watching the hatred unfold.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
