10 Best League Of Gentlemen Characters
7. Pop
Everyone gets embarrassed by their parents at some point - usually it's in those awkward developing teenage years when emotions are highly sensitive and the people that brought you into the world seem like the worst people on Earth. As you get older, that feeling goes away and you realise what you were uncomfortable about was just your own exaggerated imagination.
Not for Pop though. If he was your dad, he would be the worst person in your sphere of influence.
He's a lecherous news stand owner who took unlawful pleasure in the most disgusting of vices. While he was passionate about giving his sons an empire to rule, his mafia boss-like mannerism towards even the most minor of failures made him one of the most unhinged characters in the whole series.
Honestly, how do you dissect a character like Pop? He's vulgar, he's sleazy, he invaded the personal space of everyone he met and was not above any depths of depravity. Steve Pemberton was using all his physicality as the character of Pop, and while the role didn't call for anything as flamboyant as Pauline the Restart Officer, it did come off as one of his darker roles.
Saliva spewing, belt-whipping and face-rubbing aside - Pop stands out as a character far too extravagant to be forgotten in this list.
