4. Gachnar
Gachnar is a fantastic villain despite only briefly appearing in the flesh. Roused from a deep slumber by a drop of blood, Gachnar comes to haunt the house where Buffy, Xander, Willow and Oz are meant to be attending a Halloween party. As they arrive, however, they begin living some of their biggest fears and become separated from one another.
A fear demon, Gachnar deserves props for giving fans one of the best Halloween episodes of the show, and for having such a cool name. His ability to twist his way into people's heads and drive them mad with fear and living nightmares make him a formidable adversary.
But Gachnar's biggest impact comes with his big reveal, when Giles and Anya arrive to exorcise the house of his presence. As he is risen before the Scooby Gang, he is presented as large and intimidating, but a quick change in camera angle shows that the "Dark Lord of Nightmares" is mere inches tall, with a high, comical voice.
It's a great twist which ends up fitting the tone of the episode, but doesn't take away from the power the little guy had on our favourite heroes.
