10 Best Movie Parodies In South Park
3. The Day After Tomorrow
Combining and satirising the events surrounding the infamous Hurricane Katrina, alongside environmental disaster movies proved a match made in heaven. "Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow" (that's today) primarily focuses on paying homage to The Day After Tomorrow (obviously).
Stan accidentally crashes a boat into a beaver dam, the only barrier preventing gallons of water flooding a nearby town, and is stricken with guilt. Rather than dealing with the problem at hand, everyone becomes obsessed with figuring out who's to blame, believing the main culprit to be Global Warming. Stan and the boys attempt a rescue, but instead make matters worse by causing an oil spill and a fire. This triggers the usual tropes: scientists predicting and prepping for the terrible upcoming events, resulting in a new ice age.
Of course, it never comes and serves as an excuse to have overly dramatic scenes where townsfolk flee from an invisible monster (Global Warming), complete with dramatic music. Meanwhile, Randy and the other dads try to rescue the boys whilst dressed in full arctic gear in the middle of summer, believing the excessive warmth to be the first signs of hypothermia.
The message is clear, the satire is pointed and the episode is fantastic.
