10 Best Musical Numbers In Steven Universe

7. Do It For Her

Do It For Her is a fun training montage but it's more than that because it gives a glimpse into Pearl's psychology and the somewhat problematic and dangerous lessons that she's teaching Connie.

In the episode Sworn To The Sword, Connie wants to learn to sword fight to help protect Earth, so that she's not a burden during a crisis. Pearl sees something of herself in Connie and decides to teach her to be a knight, totally and selflessly (perhaps suicidally) dedicated to protecting Steven.

We learn later in the episode that during the war Pearl's fighting style was reckless and crazy, to the extent she would unnecessarily throw herself into danger to protect Rose. So, it's clear that what she's teaching Connie to believe is problematic at best, and at worst can only lead to disaster.

The song number both works as a training sequence, but also shows the transformation in Connie under Pearl's influence and Steven's growing concern. This is an interesting look at the evolution of a less than healthy relationship between two characters who hadn't interacted much before.
