8. John Mulaney - Kid Gorgeous At Radio City
John Mulaney is a stickler for old school storytelling style comedy. In an age where most comedians strive to have a serious message or be introspective or political or experimental - which, don't get us wrong, is brilliant...when done right and for the right reasons - Mulaney is happy just getting up and telling stories.
There's also plenty of comedians of this school too, but few who pull it off the way Mulaney does. Mulaney doesn't tell a story quickly, and sometimes he won't arrive at a punchline for ten or twelve minutes, but those are often his best jokes - and that takes skill. He's meticulous with his word choice and understands the effectiveness of a well placed curse word.
It's a sign of quality when you genuinely can't pick a favourite moment from a comedian's routine because literally everything that comes out of Mulaney's mouth is classic. Whether it's his conversation about ghosts with his mother, his father giving him "the talk", his venomous hatred of university and, although we're not ones to give advice, if you're considering going to university here's a tip: don't. He also has a wonderful anecdote about a horse loose in a hospital.
