3. Kenan & Kel
Series Run: 1996-2000 (65 episodes) Another spin-off of All That, Kenan & Kel was a combination of a variety show and a sitcom. Each episode would open with Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell addressing the audience in front of a curtain before the curtain opened on the action of the story. Featuring a theme song by Coolio, the show was destined to be a classic. The show was a comedy along the lines of Dif'rent Strokes and Family Matters, where characters often spouted catchphrases and broke the fourth wall. But just because the show was familiar doesn't mean it was bad. Kenan's overly contemplative "straight man" nature collided particularly well with Kel's boundless energy; the two worked best when they appropriated other comedy duos and actively counteracted one another. And although Kenan has gone on to find more success with SNL than his comedy counterpart, Kel was the true star of the show. Who loves orange soda? Kel loves orange soda. The awesome Good Burger movie has to be addressed as well, even though it isn't directly associated with the series it basically followed the show's format to a T, and it worked just as well. Kenan & Kel was a great program, and although it adhered to the rules of what was supposed to happen in a sitcom it knowingly played around with those rules as well.
