9. Saz
Series 5 Episode 3: Jeremy's Broke
The fifth series really displayed a downward spiral for Mark as he attempts to recover from jilting Sophie. As a display of possibly one of his lowest moments, Mark finds himself looking under any crevice he can and becomes acquainted with Australian party animal Saz. During their initial meeting at a speed-dating event, red flags immediately appear - which Mark wilfully ignores.
The horrible fun doesn't stop there, as Saz is quickly moved into the flat (taking Jez' bedroom) and Mark sinks even lower by becoming her "boyfriend". With Jeremy's bed occupied by the worst person in the world, the episode and character of Saz really demonstrate how unstable Mark's radar for bad relationships is. All through the episode, we as an audience can see that not only is Saz not right for Mark, but can spot the obvious signs that she's taking Mark for a ride.
It's cringe comedy at a new level as Mark pathetically calls Saz his girlfriend, all the way to the point of his birthday party where she cops off with Jeff right before his very eyes. Saz might be one of the worst people Mark has ever had eyes for, and that makes for one of the best (but crudest) characters on Peep Show.
