10 Best One Season Wonder TV Shows
4. Good Girls Revolt
A true story with a strong viewpoint and a fantastic central cast, it’s unclear why Good Girls Revolt only lasted a single season. This Amazon original had the potential to build into something with the scope of a Mad Men (to which it was often compared), but instead lasted just 10 episodes before disappearing with a whole lot more story to tell.
Based on a book by Lynn Povich, Good Girls Revolt depicts a group of young women working as researchers for a current affairs magazine in the New York City of the late ‘60s. Confident and ambitious career women, they’re shocked to realise just how large the pay disparity is between them and the men who take the credit for much of their hard work, and over the course of the season come together to attempt to redress this discrepancy.
It’s terrifically acted, especially by Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, and Erin Darke in the lead roles, and tells a story that feels sadly all too relevant in today’s workplaces. The first season in isolation is a great watch, but it certainly feels unfinished.
Indeed the cancellation was a surprise to viewers and the creative team alike. It deserved a whole lot better.
