10 Best Person Of Interest Episodes
1. The Devil's Share
The haunting opening sequence showing the fallout from Carter's death was an unforgettable triumph, and Person of Interest's best moment. A brilliant combination of writing, acting and direction ensured that the emotional state of the characters was perfectly conveyed without a single word being uttered, and the use of Johnny Cash's Hurt cover was inspired.
It was heartbreaking to watch Reese's grief and despair pull him back into brutality, with the terrifying "three minutes" speech representing another exceptional achievement. Juxtaposed with Reese's collapse was the triumphant completion of Fusco's redemption, as the former dirty cop refused to murder Simmons in cold blood despite ample motivation, proving that Carter's positive influence remained intact and bringing the war with HR to a cathartic resolution. The compelling flashbacks, which featured the team dealing with death, gave the episode considerable thematic depth, and served as powerful contrasts with the events in the present.
The Devil's Share was an utterly gripping experience, thanks in part to two of the show's best action scenes, namely Reese single-handedly overwhelming the marshals protecting Quinn, and Root dual-wielding in God Mode for the first time. Its ending wrapped the narrative up perfectly, as the morally complex Elias had Simmons brutally murdered, demonstrating both his loyalty to Carter and his cold willingness to do what the "civilised" team wouldn't. A masterpiece.
