10 Best Person Of Interest Episodes
2. Return 0
A stellar ending for Person of Interest, that brought all of the key characters' stories to a fitting conclusion, and continues to stand as one the greatest TV finales of all time. The Machine's thoughts on mortality gave the episode true depth and profundity, and Reese's sacrifice for Finch represented a beautiful tribute to their friendship, provided with extra emotional weight by the Machine's decision to assist and comfort them until the end. Shaw received similar help in processing her grief, and exacted a gratifying vengeance on the weaselly, unrepentant Blackwell.
The series finale also concluded the conflict with Samaritan on a powerful note, as the malevolent ASI was forced to abandon its insidious approach in favour of terrifying displays of power, speaking through the Times Square billboards and launching a missile at the city. Fortunately, the Machine proved up to the challenge, keeping herself alive with the aid of Shaw and Fusco long enough to destroy the last remaining Samaritan copy, despite the harm done to her by ICE-9.
There were plenty of loving callbacks to the show’s history, from Fusco’s character growth to Finch’s first meeting with Reese back at the very beginning. Despite the losses and pain that the team suffered, Return 0 ended the story on a positive note, with Finch finally getting a happy ending with Grace, the promise of future adventures for Shaw, and the Machine watching over the world once again.
