10 Best Sci-Fi Comedy TV Series You Need To Watch

7. The Orville

If you really pay attention to Seth MacFarlane's various animated comedies, you quickly pick up on his obsession with science fiction. Family Guy has dozens of cutaway gags rooted in sci-fi. American Dad features an alien as one of the main characters and Patrick Stewart voices a key, but disturbing, side character.

As such, it wasn't really a surprise when The Orville came along. This was MacFarlane's comedic take on the science fiction tropes that had been primarily laid down through decades of Star Trek. There are some fans who see so much of Star Trek in The Orville that they consider it to be one of the best Star Trek series in years.

While The Orville is funny, engaging science fiction, it's definitely not a standard Seth MacFarlane franchise. It has a different tone than his animated series. Unfortunately, recent reports indicate that Seth may be done with The Orville and is looking to move on to other projects. The series could continue without him but it wouldn't be the same.
