3. Battlestar Galactica
As one of the biggest shows during the famous 'golden age of television' , Battlestar Galactica is synonymous with the TV space genre. A remake of the original 1978 series of the same name, the show officially aired its first season in 2004, after a two-part TV movie prologue in 2003. The show ran for four seasons until its conclusion in 2009, with a total of seventy-four episodes.
Battlestar Galactica follows the survivors of the Twelve Colonies, a group of colonised planets, after being attacked by the androids known as the Cylons. The last of humanity board the titular ship, Galactica, and venture out into space in the hope of reaching the safe haven known as Earth. The show has made recognisable stars out of many of its cast, but most notably the two female leads in Katee Sackhoff, as military pilot Kara Thrace, and Tricia Helfer, as the iconic red dressed Number Six.
Not only is Battlestar Galactica a cult hit, but the show has been decorated favourably by critics. Amassing an impressive nineteen Emmy nominations, winning three, and featuring on the New York Times famous list of best dramas since The Sopranos.
