Ever wondered what it would actually be like to live on the moon? If so, Space: 1999 is the show for you.

The final brainchild of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, this exploration show ran in the mid-1970s and revolved around the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha, a scientific research centre on the Moon. When a nuclear catastrophe occurs in the year 1999, the moon is plunged out of orbit and hurled into space, sending those on the surface into an epic journey which leads them into a black hole, and onto alien civilizations, dystopian societies and other strange phenomena.

Unfortunately, like others on this list, the show was short-lived, lasting only for two seasons. The ratings had been mixed from the start, and it was eventually cancelled in 1977. That hasn't stopped various spin-offs and continuations though, with the most recent effort being a re-imagined audio release from Big Finish productions.
