6. Masters Of Horror

The Prisoner
Showtime

If you're a fan of both a good anthology series and a scare, you won't want to miss this one.

With similarities to The Twilight Zone'and Tales Of The Unexpected, the journey to Masters Of Horror reportedly began when director Mick Garris invited fellow colleagues to dinner in 2002, where they came up with the nickname of the 'Masters' (apparently a coin termed by Guillermo Del Toro). Three years later and the show was born - a series of one-hour television stories written and directed by many of the group, including well-known horror veterans John Carpenter, Joe Dante and John Landis.

The show was a hit in the US on the Showtime network and led to a second season the following year, while a number of the short films were released theatrically in other countries. If you're taking a watch, personal highlights include 'Incident On and Off a Mountain Road', 'Dance Of The Dead' and 'Fair-Haired Child'.
