10 Best Sketch Comedy Series Of All Time

1. Chappelle's Show

Calling Chappelle's Show a cultural phenomenon is an incredible understatement. It first appeared on Comedy Central in 2003, and technically has three seasons. The first two are the ones people remember the most.

Created by comedians Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan, Chappelle's Show quickly cemented itself as the home for edgy comedy about modern America. Frankly, the word "edgy" doesn't do the series justice as it took some massive swings at some big ideas. The show was not afraid to make people angry while expressing truth through comedy.

Frontline, a fake 60 Minutes-esque, news show, investigated a blind white supremacist who didn't know he was Black. This sketch popped up in the first episode and has been named the best sketch of the series by many. It also garnered a lot of complaints, which just fueled Chappelle and company to do more.

Unfortunately, things fell apart after season two. Chappelle walked away from the show after burning out from the pressure of making such a high profile series and feeling like he was losing creative control over it. Comedy Central aired what was done of season three with different hosts. While there were a couple of decent sketches, the truncated third season was, for the most part, dismal.

Dave Chappelle has only recently returned to comedy but the show that bears his name holds up years later. Well, the first two seasons, at least.
