10 Best Slasher Horror TV Shows
8. The Chalet
All horror fans know that often the genre's best surprises come from foreign-language productions, and French slasher The Chalet is no exception. The show’s narrative spans two timelines, in 1997 and 2017, with both taking place at the titular idyllic chalet in the Alps.
When a young couple visiting the chalet for a wedding in 2017 suddenly find themselves trapped within the village minus phone or internet after a rockslide blocks the only roadway out, they and the other remaining inhabitants begin to discover secrets relating to the disappearance of a family in the nineties as they in turn are steadily picked off. This blends many of the classic slasher tropes, like the isolated location and small group of victims, with the mystery and whodunnit elements of a classic crime thriller.
The interweaving of the two timelines also serves to further the tension and heighten reveals throughout the miniseries’ relatively compact runtime. Worry not, though - despite taking itself a little more seriously than some of the other shows on this list, The Chalet equally features enough gratuitous violence and staged mishaps to keep classic slasher fans happy.
