10 Best Slasher Horror TV Shows

7. I Know What You Did Last Summer

American Horror Story 1984
Amazon Studios

Being one of the most iconic nineties slasher films, it was to be expected that a studio would eventually have a go at remaking I Know What You Did Last Summer. Snapped up by Amazon Studios for their growing portfolio of original streaming programming, the resulting eight-episode modern reimagining of Lois Duncan’s novel thankfully lives up well enough to the source material.

The show follows the familiar plot, wherein a group of teenage friends find themselves stalked by a mysterious murderer exactly one year following their cover-up of a fatal car accident. Thanks to its expanded runtime, the series is afforded the opportunity to expand further upon both the past and present narratives, and is supported by strong performances by its young leads - including emerging ‘scream queen’ Brianne Tju.

I Know What You Did Last Summer certainly isn't the most successful adaptation of a film series on this list, as it received mixed reviews and was unfortunately cancelled in 2022 after only one season. However, there is enough justified deviation from the original, full of shock twists and insane kills, that fans of the franchise should still give this version a chance.
