9. Dean’s Payday Rap

The best thing about this song is that it comes out of absolutely nowhere, and has spent literally seasons worth of the show throwing you off the scent.

The Dean is one of the campest figures on television, brilliantly played by Jim Rash. He typically walks in on the study group/save Greendale committee/whatever they are this week, dressed in some ridiculous outfit with a tenuously linked pun and an announcement.

Though Jeff and occasionally others in the group are irritated by this, viewers have always loved it. So when he comes in with a keyboard wearing a peanut bar costume, we’re expecting more of the same.

It starts that way, with a kitschy rap about Jeff & Buzz’s paycheques being late. Suddenly though, he launches into an anthemic verse of gangsta rap, losing himself completely in the music. When he comes to, he’s utterly shaken, and we see the Dean in a completely new light.

It should be no surprise that JI’m Rash is a man of hidden talents though. As well as his accomplished acting career, Rash has won an Oscar for screenwriting, winning in 2012 for The Descendants.
