10 Best South Park Episodes
9. With Apologies To Jesse Jackson
Although the four primary children might be the leading figures of the series, they are hardly the only characters who can carry an episode. In many cases, South Park's adults are just as entertaining, and none more so than Stan's dad Randy. This ridiculous parental figure is an absolute fan favourite, and he's had plenty of great leading episodes, but his best has to be With Apologies to Jesse Jackson.
In this outing, Randy competes on Wheel of Fortune, and after an unfortunate misunderstanding, ends up excitedly shouting the N-word on live TV. After this occurs, he becomes a pariah in the town, and cannot escape his reputation. Alongside Randy's journey, Stan tries to convince Token - the only black kid at school - that his dad isn't racist.
The episode is full of well-executed humour all around. The awkwardness and ignorance of Randy and the way he makes himself a martyr is hilarious, but the scathing satirical look at the way public figures can get away with making awful comments is just as sharp.
Additionally, the climax within Stan's story is fantastic. He finally stops arguing with Token and realises that he will never understand what it's like for him, which settles things between them.
