10 Best Spaceships In The Doctor Who Universe

8. Hyperion III

Doctor Who World Enough And Time Mondasian colony ship

The focal point of the Sixth Doctor serial Terror Of The Vervoids, Hyperion III is an intergalactic liner that serves numerous different purposes.

Most relevant to this story, the ship is transporting precious cargo between the planets Mogar and Earth. Included in this cargo is the plant-like species known as Vervoids, who - due to their low upkeep costs - are intended to be used as a slave labour force. However, after they turn murderous, the Doctor is forced to wipe them all out.

Under normal circumstances though, the Hyperion III is essentially a cruise ship, with the majority of guests there to enjoy the ride. It's got a gym where people can limber up on a long journey, a lounge where tired folks can put their feet up and enjoy some nibbles, and plenty of accommodation space for a large amount of passengers.

Impressively though, it's also an extremely strong vessel - not something you'd expect from a cruise liner! As shown at the start of the fourth episode, the ship is capable of escaping a black hole, something that it does with relative ease. This means the Hyperion III doesn't just have style, it has power, too - making it a ship that's hard to fault.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
