10 Best Spaceships In The Doctor Who Universe

9. The Tsuranga

Like the Webstar, we often think of spaceships as being attack-minded machines. But the Tsuranga - as featured in Series 11's The Tsuranga Conundrum - is interesting, in that its primary, singular purpose is to serve as a hospital.

Essentially space's very own NHS, the shielded and sturdy Tsuranga patrols the stars, gathering individuals who are in need of medical attention. This is exactly what happens to the Thirteenth Doctor, Yaz, Ryan, and Graham, who are unwittingly beamed onboard the ship after an incident involving a sonic mine.

And in terms of making sick people healthy again? The Tsuranga appears to tick all the right boxes. Full marks on that front. On the downside though, the ship is extremely lacking in the offensive department, as evidenced when the entire thing is nearly taken down by a small, lone, hungry alien called the Pting.

Design-wise, the Tsuranga clearly benefitted from Doctor Who's more cinematic production values in the Chris Chibnall era, with a clean, cool, hyper-futuristic interior that looks like it was borrowed from J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek reboot. It's definitely one of the most memorable sets we've seen in the show in recent years.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
