7. The Alien Costume, Part 3 (S1:10)
The Lizard. The Kingpin. Doc Ock. Scorpion. Kraven the Hunter. Season 1 came out (web) swinging, introducing a new villain into Spidey's world every episode. By the time that Rhino and the symbiote rolled around in the eight episode, we anxiously awaited for Venom's arrival.
The Alien Costume was a three-part story which saw Peter Parker with an ooze contained in the space rock "Promethium X". The first episode ends with the black suited Spider-Man with an aggressive and angry Peter Parker dominating episode two.
Of course, the best of the trilogy is the third episode. After Parker frees himself of the symbiote in Part 2, it bonds with Eddie Brock and Venom is unleashed in Part 3. Although all of Spider-Man's villains presented obstacles, Venom is the first in the series to feel like a real threat.
The show helped put this in perspective by including Rhino, Kingpin, and Shocker in the story. The two low-level thugs are easily dispatched by Venom, not only showing his superior strength but also positioning him as a wildcard that would attack anyone.
With the knowledge of Spider-Man's alter ego, Venom broke onto the scene as Spider-Man's deadliest foe yet.
