10 Best Star Trek: Voyager Episodes Not About The Main Cast

9. Child's Play

Star Trek Icheb
CBS

Child's Play is simultaneously an Icheb episode and an episode that teaches Seven of Nine a lot about who she is and who she has become. Upon finding Icheb's parents and homeworld, Voyager returns him home. It is almost unthinkable that his parents would harm him in any way, but Seven finds herself struggling throughout the episode to let the boy go.

Manu Intirayami has been the grown-up of the Borg children since their arrival on Voyager, yet he becomes a child himself as he gives in to his wishes to return home. His farewell with Seven is emotional, with both actors selling it. The gut-punch then of the reveal, that his parents had in fact delivered him to the Borg as a sort of tribute to protect their world, unleashes the true anger of Seven's burgeoning motherhood.

Voyager rescues Icheb after a tense battle with a Borg Sphere, with the fate of Icheb's world left in doubt after they depart. But for Icheb, it is one of his best hours and one that truly sells him as a member of the Voyager family.
