The earliest episode on this list, Season 1's Rookies introduces fan favourite characters the Domino Squad.

Originally made up of clone troopers Fives, Echo, Hevy, Cutup, and Droidbait, the five of them are stationed at the Rishi Moon Outpost when Separatist droids attack. After the deaths of Droidbait and Cutup, the "shinies" (new clones) team up with Captain Rex and Commander Cody to stop the Separatists.

The episode ends with Hevy's sacrifice, as he blows up himself, the outpost, and the droids in order to drive the enemy back.

Rookies is the first episode to treat the clones like real people. The episode follows five developed Clones who have personalities and make sacrifices. We care about these people because, unlike the films, the episode treats them like people. This distinction between clone and droid is one of the overall themes of Clone Wars, and it all begins with Rookies.
