10 Best Static Shock Episodes

7. Static In Africa

Static Shock TV Show
Warner Bros.

One of the best parts of Static Shock as a series is how nuanced it was in its exploration of African American youth culture. Much of this came from McDuffie drawing through-lines from Virgil himself, to his heritage, and going into his relationship thereof.

Case in point - Static In Africa.

The episode is exactly what it says on the tin; Virgil and his family go to Africa for a vacation and, while there, Static meets the African superhero Anansi. This would be fine on its own as a fun team up episode, but they really go in depth with how Virgil feels being in Africa. We find Static going through an indescribable emotional experience simply by flying around the Savannah.

And of course, Static and Anansi form a deep bond through their adventure together, with Virgil stating that he wishes there was a black hero like him back home. To which Anansi corrects him that there already is.

Tear jerker all around.
