One of Static's most defining characteristics was the fact that he never truly got over the death of his mother, an EMT who died during a gang riot. The trauma of her death has defined so much of what he believes in as a superhero, from his refusal to take a life, to his fear and hatred of guns.

So of course, when the opportunity presents itself to go back and stop his mother from dying, Static immediately jumps at it. A new bang baby nicknamed Timezone has the ability to go back and forth in time. Though until meeting Static and Gear, she was unable to control it.

She agrees to take Static back to the riot and save his mom. But things get complicated when Ebon comes along and decides to start the big bang five years earlier. In the end, Static is unable to change history, but if nothing else, manages to finally accept and come to terms with his mother being gone.

It's a beautiful episode about the need to move on, coming to terms with grief and loss, and how as long as you remember them, those you love will always be with you.
