Jax Teller went on quite the journey over Sons of Anarchy's increasingly bombastic seven season run, starting things out as uncertain and optimistic before descending into almost all-out villainy once he took charge of the titular biker gang.

At once incredibly loyal to his fellow bikers, deeply family-orientated and hopeful of the future, Jax was also a murderer, gunrunner, and expert manipulator who betrayed both allies and enemies in order to come out on top of his ecosystem's food chain.

Every step of the way, Jax found a way to be easy to root for. Of course, the show takes place in a closed world, making it easy to follow him in the context of the story, but even so Jax was such a tragic and complex figure that it was nearly impossible not to feel for him, even in his darkest moments.

From his naive early days at the start of the show to his final farewell, Jax was a tough guy to understand, but an easy one to become invested in.
