6. Class Of '92: Out Of Their League

The Class of '92 was the name given to the collection of local Manchester United youth team players who all broke into Sir Alex Ferguson's first team side in 1992. Despite scepticism from pundits and fans alike, Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and David Beckham would form the spine of Ferguson's serial title winning side over the course of the 1990s and 2000s, and are still regarded as the most successful youth team story in all of footballing history.

In 2014, the Class of 92 invested in their local non-league side, Salford City F.C. and helped engineer a rapid rise to the Football League with promotion into League Two in 2019.

Class of 92: Out of Their League is a BBC documentary series that follows all the members of the Class of 92 who invested in the club as they began Salford City's dramatic rise. It was followed by a second series, Class of 92: Still Out of Their League, and gives a remarkable insight into the relationships between the former pros and their roots at the very bottom of grassroots football. It features insightful interviews and jaw-dropping bursts right from the touchline, as well as shedding light on what football ownership really consists of.
