10 Best TV Shows That Never Won An Emmy
6. Happy Days
Happy Days is one of the most important sitcoms ever made, as well as being one of the best known and the most popular. Even if you’ve never seen an episode, you’ll know all about the Fonz, his leather jacket and his ‘Heyyy!’ catchphrase.
Happy Days also coined the phrase Jumped The Shark, used now to describe a show which has gone on too long and resorted to being ridiculous, originating when the Fonz literally jumped over a shark on water skis. The Simpsons is often described as having jumped the shark with Principal Armin Tamzarian, for example.
Despite that being amongst its best known moments now, Happy Days was an A+ sitcom for the best part of a decade. It launched the careers of Ron Howard and Henry Winkler, but it never won that coveted Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy.
Curiously, in 1978 the Golden Globes found Ron Howard & Henry Winkler’s performances so great they gave them a joint award, being unable to split them.
Henry Winkler, Tom Bosley and Marion Ross were all up for acting Emmys at one point, while the episode Richie Almost Dies scored a nomination for Outstanding Direction. Alas though, no wins for the show.
