It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been nominated for three Emmys in its time, for Outstanding Stunt Co-Ordination In A Comedy three years on the bounce between 2013-2015. To have never been nominated in the comedy categories, nor to have any of their fantastic cast recognised seems like a huge oversight.

The Gang, prone to being blunt, have tackled this issue themselves. In the Season 9 episode The Gang Desperately Tries To Win An Award, the Gang... well, figure it out.

The plot concerns a bar award, but is clearly a commentary on their lack of Emmys. They realise they’re too crude, too nasty, lack diversity and cuteness to ever win; at one point they think it’s their location, but ‘that new bar down the block’ (American Horror Story on FX) wins awards, so it can’t be that.

While that episode ends with them spitting at the judges, calling them a low brow show does them a massive disservice. Though the characters themselves are utter scumbags, the show does touch on some important issues which other comedies often skirt around.

Transgender bathroom bills, welfare, racism, homophobia and, of course, bird law have all been tackled by the show.
