10 Best TV Shows That Never Won An Emmy
4. Doctor Who
Neither the original run nor the revival series of Doctor Who have ever even been nominated for an Emmy award; considering it qualifies for the International category (and therefore wouldn’t need to go up against big US dramas), it seems all the more surprising.
British actors and productions often do well at the Emmys; Claire Foy, Thandie Newton and Charlie Brooker all won major awards last year, while shows like Game Of Thrones have many British stars and have several scenes shot in Britain, despite being American dramas at heart.
Considering much ‘lesser’ British shows have won International Emmys, Doctor Who’s barren run feels even more surprising. ‘Lesser’ shows is of course a relative term, but award shows are subjective after all.
There aren’t many British shows more recognised and beloved than Doctor Who across the Atlantic either. Considering Downton Abbey has swept the major awards against US shows (rather than the Internationals), Doctor Who feels worthy of a seat at that table too.
Acting isn’t always at the forefront of what makes Doctor Who great, but David Tennant never winning Outstanding International Lead Actor for his role as the Tenth seems a big oversight as well.
