As the most successful sitcom of all time, it's no huge surprise that Friends is a show which had a great first episode.

Besides being very funny and introducing the series long will-they-or-won't-they dynamic between Ross and Rachel, Friends' pilot succeeds where so many other shows fail by having fully fleshed out characters from the very beginning, with clear motivations and dynamics between one another.

While the first episode of the show is a little different from the fast paced and hi-jinks filled comedy show Friends would later become, it clearly establishes that this sitcom is a full on ensemble piece from its very first scene, while setting up in jokes and relationships which would last for the entire show's run.
