10 Best TV Sitcom Pilot Episodes
2. Modern Family
Critically acclaimed and award winning from the start, Modern Family's pilot episode is incredibly well crafted, showing us three distinctive spins on the concept of family in a mockumentary format.
The traditional nuclear family of the Dunphys, the stepfamily of the Pritchett-Delgados and the same-sex family of the Pritchett-Tuckers are all displayed in increasingly hilarious ways. Whether it's Jay trying to act younger for his youthful wife Gloria, Claire and Phil's attempts to spy on their daughter and her new boyfriend, or Mitchell and Cameron's adoption trip to Vietnam, this one is high on the laughs.
What's so memorable about the pilot, however, besides the memorable characters is that the writers hold back the fact that all three families are related until the very end when the seemingly unrelated storylines suddenly converge and the whole family unites in a great final moment.
